Our firm’s founder, Josh Burland, spent many years as a landlord representative before he founded Burland Commercial, and his inside knowledge gives our clients an edge in lease and purchase negotiations. Josh takes pride in leveraging this insider experience to get the most for our tenant clients.

Prior to founding Burland Commercial more than a decade ago, Josh Burland spent years working as a landlord leasing agent for institutionally owned industrial projects. In this capacity, he gained the insight and experience to understand market conditions and negotiations from both landlord and tenant perspectives.

Working for the largest commercial real estate firm in the world, Josh was tasked with leasing over one million square feet of industrial buildings in San Diego. His landlord clientele’s projects consistently outperformed competitors as he achieved above-market rents and occupancy rates for his landlord clientele. This experience gave Josh inside knowledge regarding concessions landlords are willing to make for different types of tenants and which issues commonly become sticking points. These issues include rent abatement, construction allowances, renewal and expansion options, and many more.

Nicole brings a wealth of experience and a global perspective to Burland Commercial, hailing from Cape Town, South Africa. With striking similarities in topography and climate between Cape Town and San Diego, Nicole feels perfectly at home in the vibrant community of La Jolla. As the Director of Business Development, Nicole is often the first point of contact for clients, leveraging her expertise and warm professionalism to guide them through their commercial real estate journey.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Nicole is deeply committed to social impact. In South Africa, she has dedicated significant time to raising funds for underprivileged schools and hospitals, empowering communities through education and healthcare initiatives. Additionally, she has provided compassionate counseling to victims of crime, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to making a positive difference.
